Improvement/Rational - When I was doing my coursework last summer there were a number of things we discussed. Advertising/promotion of the library, purchasing, lessons, supplies, organization, accounting, weeding and many others. These were all things I was very comfortable with and happy to do. However, creating a policy was something I had no idea on and where to start. After my coursework I was given some great direction in where to go and how to start this. Creating a policy for my library is something on my list of things to do that I have not completed yet. I believe that is it something every library should have, however, I do believe you should have a great understanding of the job first before you go about creating a policy. This is why I have left it till now. A policy gives you a set of rules and guidelines to follow and that are expected to be followed in case there happens to be any issues that arise. I do believe that if a librarian does a great job and is on top of their library a problem arising that needs a policy should not arise.
Timeline - This is something that I hope to have in place by next September. I plan to take some time on this and work through it properly.
Concerns - I want to include some of the legal concerns that I can find from the district and the school to include them in the policy. This is why it will take some time to implement.
Improvement - I will be adding this policy to my library blog. I have already created a tab for it, so it is matter of actually doing this.
Communication Plan - I plan to be talking to my principal to get some direction on this from the district as well as my teacher from my course last summer for more direction. He was amazing and has offered to help me in this regard.
Challenges - I am not very good on the legal aspect and writing how things might be in this regard. I can see myself creating the policy in more 'normal' English so everyone can read it and understand it. Then all the users know all the rules and regulations. Having it on the blog I can use it as a lesson at the start of every year.
